The Quarterback Competition
📷
On Saturday, Burgundy and Gold Report contributor Paul attended Redskins' Training Camp as part of the#BandGReportCampFeverTour and walked away intrigued with the battle at quarterback. Paul posted up to the minute tweets, pictures and videos during the Saturday practice sessions. He felt that the quarterback competition was intriguing with rookie Dwayne Haskins standing out from the rest.

"The QB battle is going to be a good one. We know what Case and Colt can do. DH up close is a totally different animal. He looks taller than 6’3. The ball comes out different, almost like a dart. Give him time and he'll pick you apart, but get him off his base (not saying he is bad) and he's not as effective. It’s hard to evaluate the QB’s due to the OL play, though."

There is no doubt that Haskins has the potential to lead this offense, but practice will not tell the full story. Throw in the offensive line, which is missing multiple starters, and the picture is even murkier. Fans will have to temper their expectations until the pre-season in order to get a clearer picture of how the rookie will perform in live action.
The Defense
The strength of this team will undoubtedly be the defensive front. We had a bird's eye view when running back Samaje Perine took the handoff and sprinted behind the right side of the offensive line, only to be met at the line by Matt Ioannidis for no gain(video below).

The addition of safety Landon Collins already seems to have paid off with his ability to lead a young, but talented defensive back group which has simply lacked a true leader. Players were frequently observed discussing formations, technique and matchups with Collins during the practice session.

The mismatch seemed evident with the Redskins defense often running stunts & blitzes versus an offensive line that was missing key starters. The defensive backs took advantage of the additional pressure and recorded multiple interceptions on the day with Quinton Dunbar and Josh Norman stealing the show.
The overall feel of the team seems different than years passed with the addition of a bonafide franchise quarterback of the present & future and a defense that has the potential be one of the best in NFC.
Thoughts On The Day
Haskins needs more reps with the starters
The Defense looks noticeably faster
The Receivers are young, but have the potential to be a talented group
Most importantly, the absence of Trent Williams was noticeable and the Redskins need a legit LT in his place.
With Training Camp underway and Washington's first preseason matchup versus Cleveland less than two weeks away, the competition should intensify as will the updates from Richmond.
