Not every Washington fan agreed with the Day 2 trade with one of their division rivals, but time will tell if the Commanders got the better end of the deal.
As part of the deal, the Eagles sent Washington 2nd round selections 50, 53 and 161 overall in exchange for the 40th, 78th and 152 overall selections.
Michigan slot corner Mike Sainristil was Washington's selection with the 50th pick, which they netted in the trade back with Philadelphia.
The Wolverine's corner had one of the best seasons for a D1 defensive back n '23 and was credited with 8 of the teams forced turnovers in '23.
As part of The Burgundy and Gold Report pre-draft NFL Draft series, Sainristil was one of 3 corners evaluated as fits for the Washington Commanders (FULL 1/16 SCOUTING REPORT).
Mike Sainristil
5'9" 182 lbs | CB | MICH
2nd Round 50th Overall
Career Stats (62 games)-108 TAK (70 solo), 10.5 TFLs, 3 SACKS, 7 INTs, 13 PD & 2 FF
'23 Stats (15 games)- 44 TAK (26 solo), 4.0 TFLs, 1 SACK, 6 INTs, 6 PD & 2 FF
2024 Outlook
As a Michigan captain in '23, Sainristil started all 15 games as the top defensive contributor for the Wolverines, finishing the season with 44 tackle,s 4 tackles for a loss 1 sack and 6 pass breakups and 6 interceptions.
The Wolverines defensive back will likely see the field early considering the Commanders lack of overall talent at the position.
New Washington defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. has a solid reputation of cornerback development, which bodes well for Sainristil living up to his potential on the next level.
Hopes will be high for '23 1st round corner Emmanuel Forbes and it's believed fellow '23 2nd rounder Quan Martin will line up predominately at safety.
Look for Sainristil to make a positive impression early on during training camp and lock down the staring slot for the Commanders.
