Zaccheaus Building Chemistry with Daniels | Washington Commanders

Written By Adam Aniba

Washington receiver Olamide Zaccheaus has been a bit of a journeyman since entering the league out of Virginia. After going undrafted, Zaccheaus signed with Atlanta in 2019 where he played four seasons.

The undrafted receiver had a career year in '22 with the Falcons, recording 40 receptions 533 yards and 3 touchdowns in 23 starts.

Zaccheaus signed with the Eagles in '23, but only started 1 game (active in 17 games) registering 164 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season.

Since signing with the Commanders, Zaccheaus has been a frequent target for rookie QB Jayden Daniels, along with whoever lined up under center.

Although Zaccheaus was used sparingly in Philadelphia last season, he could have a significant role in Kingsbury's offense if makes the final cut.

Considering 3-4 WR sets will be utilized often based on Kingsbury's history, Zaccheaus could see significant playing time if he makes the final 53-man roster.

HC Dan Quinn has already mentioned Zaccheaus by name duirng multiple press conferences, when asked about players that have stood out.

Prior to his arrival in Washington, Zaccheaus had the following to say to CBS Sports in Philadelphia, regarding what he brings to an offense.

“Part of my game is just being reliable and doing whatever the team needs me to do. Blocking, in the slot, catching passes, whatever the team needs me to do I’ll do. I’m very confident in what I do and what I bring to the table".

Quinn also made it clear that the competition at receiver is wide open after Terry McLauirn. Although Dyami Brown has shined in camp, scrimmages and the pre-season, he's been inconsistent and lacked production during the regular season in years past.

Third year receiver Jahan Dotson and 3rd round selection Luke McCaffrey are locks, along with Brown.

The Commanders will carry 5-6 receivers heading into the season, which leaves possibly two spots with Jamison Crowder, Kamier Allen, Martavis Bryant, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Mitchell Tinsley and Brycen Tremayne all in the mix with Zaccheaus

The last pre-season game vs the Patriots will be the last opportunity for the former Cavaliers receivers to show coaches he belongs and carve out a role on special teams and in sub-packages for Kingsbury.
